Top 52 Places to Discover in 2016 according to the New York Times // 52 destinazioni da scoprire nel 2016 secondo il New York Times

TheNew York Times has published a list of the 52 Places worth visiting in 2016. Many of you have probably seen it flicking through your FB updates, but if you did not pay attention or you just looked into some of the destination, I’d suggest you to have a closer look at the full list. Despite agreeing or not with the ranked destinations, I think it’s really well presented! You’re presented with an amazing shot on one side and if you want to know more about that place, you can just click on the photo and discover more in general and of recent events or facts, at least on your phone, on your computer the description is just below. Many sites present it similarly, but somehow I find this list of the NYT more elegant and more impactful. It’ll be a very good photograph or just its image quality, the fact that some photos are half videos or the usually non-banal descriptions, I don’t know. Anyway, why don’t you just take a 2nd look! http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/01/07/travel/places-to-visit.html?smid=fb-share&_r=0

At least 6 things to absolutely do in Samoa // Almeno 6 cose da fare a Samoa

Welcome to one of the still quite unspoilt paradise of the South Pacific! 1. Lalomanu Beach – spend there at least half a day to bathe in the turquoise water, lay on the white sand and just admire the amazing panorama either from the sand itself or from the rustic restaurant on the beach. There are at least two accommodation options “fale” style, the typical Samoan hut, either as it is in complete touch with nature covered by just a cloth or in a closed one to give you some more privacy. 2. 1 day Tour of Upolu island – you can rent a car and do it yourself which is probably much easier or pay a taxi driver for the day. They usually will charge around 300 Samoan dollars. A small / old car will cost roughly half, while a new one will cost you roughly the same as a taxi ride, but experiencing the island by yourself is just priceless. 3. Snorkelling – as my husband was saying, the reef is easily reachable …

A Lebanese night out in Zurich // Una serata libanese a Zurigo

Last night after a full day of running around doing million things, I really needed to relax, chill out, unwind… We were supposed to go to an organised event, but it was too late, so wandering around Zurich, I believe still in Enge, we saw this cute and lively bar on the corner, next to the river, with coulourful lights and music playing with such a great vibe and we decided to make a stop there. A very welcoming staff, just showed us where we could sit while waiting for  proper table. We sat on the stools, maybe a bit too high vs the table, but where we ended staying the whole night! We ordered a “stange”, the Swiss/German word for a small beer, which is already probably 3/4 of a pint (another country where beer is easily drunk :), and a “radler”, which I was told it’s called “Panache” or “Panache’ “, like in France, basically beer with lemonade. Ohhh God, it was so refreshing, since Zurich last night was still very warm. Oh, …

Why go to New Zealand? // Perche’ andare in Nuova Zelanda?

New Zealand: if I think of New Zealand, I think of a dreamland or better, a dream destination. A land where you can just loose yourself in the beauties of nature, its colours, its amazing panoramas. This time it’s been a short visit, a long weekend to the South Island, exactly to Queenstown and its surrounding mountains, to accomplish a dream: skiing in New Zealand. This dream had 2 challenges: 1. Reach New Zealand 2. Ski there For #1 I can say it was quite easy, as I now live in Melbourne, Australia. For #2, it has been a little bit more difficult as lately my operated knee was begging for attention. So it required quite a deal of motivation, to start the physio, and more effort, to actually do it. But if I want something, I’ll get it! And that’s why I found myself skiing for a long day on the slopes of Cardrona just after 2 months of quite an intense Physio schedule. Well, the mountains in Cardrona look similar to the Western …

Happy Bday – What did happen in 1 Year of Blogging? // Buon compleanno! Cosa vuol dire scrivere un blog per 1 anno?

September 26th that’s the day I finally decided to start blogging! It’s been an amazing year, during which: I experienced a lot started living in Australia again, in Melbourne for the 1st time, travelled around here & collected new stamps on my passport in Fiji, New Zealand and Thailand (I still have to write about it) met a lot of fantastic people that inspired me, in Melbourne and through Blogging experienced working by myself, in an art gallery, always looking for learning something new and learnt so much about taking photographs with a DSLR, French, reaching a good intermediate level, as my friends Gaelle & Xavier would say learnt a bit of jewellery making and a lot of small things, making bread, some Footy rules, etc… but most of all, as we’re talking about Blogging, I learnt how to blog, although there’s still so much to learn, got a deeper understanding of WordPress & social media communications and started implementing what I learnt, shared my thoughts, feelings, my travel diaries with many people that have …

Queenstown: Ski trip to New Zealand – Useful INFO // Avete mai pensato di sciare in Nuova Zelanda? Queenstown! – INFORMAZIONI UTILI

I wanted to come back and I knew I wanted to do it, but what I did not know was when and that I actually would really come back. What am I talking about? New Zealand! Already when I moved to Melbourne, New Zealand, together with other destinations, was on my bucket list. And the biggest dream was to go skiing there. So let’s say I accomplished my biggest dream about NZ as I just spent a long weekend in Queenstown, in the South Island. I still have to visit probably 60% of the South Island, as I visited the North tip of the South Island and part of the Malborough in 2002, but I know now it’s going to be possible! I advise to book the flight at least 3 months in advance, more if you can, especially for weekends and if your purpose is skiing. Best schedules & average priced Flights run out quickly. We flew in on Friday morning via Christchurch with Virgin Australia / Air New Zealand and arrived in Queenstown …

What is the Expat attitude? // Cosa si puo’ imparare da chi vive all’estero?

I encourage to read this article by The Age about Expat life or better attitude. I think it reminds everybody how to look at life and brings a bit of positive attitude and care for others, it pushes you to know more about the country you live in, it brings the curiosity to go out and make new friends. Among other things, it talks about expats you usually do things and don’t spend much time thinking whether they should do something or not.  I think we all need to remember that from time to time. From my personal experience, I do think that as an Expat you are, in a way, forced to put yourself out there to make new friends and explore the new city you live in, but then it also comes down to each one’s attitude. It allows you the freedom of being different, discovering your newself, if you want, although you always need to cope with yourself, but that is another story. I remember the first time I came back from …
