6 Tips for a Great Weekend in Zurich // 6 Cose da fare per uno splendido weekend a Zurigo

After not even a month here, last weekend we had our first visitors: a couple, good friends of ours. Since we haven’t been in Zurich for a long time and we’ve been running around to do those many things you need to do when you move to a new place, we did not really know the city that well. So we asked also our friends for some suggestions and this is the plan we put together, relaxed and healthy, but not too much! 🙂 Visit to Uetliberg – this a nice half a day trip to one of Zurich’s surrounding mountains. You can either walk up there, roughly 1h 15min from where we currently live (Sihlcity), or by train. If you decide to walk up there, be prepared to do a bit of effort, even climbing a little bit if you take the wrong turn like we did eheh J, but that will be more than compensated by the great lunch options at the top. We went to the Kiosk, which offers good Swiss German …

Salmorejo: Ricetta estiva rinfrescante / Summer Recipe from Spain

A Lebanese night out in Zurich // Una serata libanese a Zurigo

Last night after a full day of running around doing million things, I really needed to relax, chill out, unwind… We were supposed to go to an organised event, but it was too late, so wandering around Zurich, I believe still in Enge, we saw this cute and lively bar on the corner, next to the river, with coulourful lights and music playing with such a great vibe and we decided to make a stop there. A very welcoming staff, just showed us where we could sit while waiting for  proper table. We sat on the stools, maybe a bit too high vs the table, but where we ended staying the whole night! We ordered a “stange”, the Swiss/German word for a small beer, which is already probably 3/4 of a pint (another country where beer is easily drunk :), and a “radler”, which I was told it’s called “Panache” or “Panache’ “, like in France, basically beer with lemonade. Ohhh God, it was so refreshing, since Zurich last night was still very warm. Oh, …

Beach Weekend South of Sydney… Where? Dove?

Whether you are cruising around Australia, you’re looking for a nice relax stop south of Sydney or you live in Sydney and you’re searching for a nice escape to the beach, Jervis Bay is definitely one of the best places to go! It’s about 2:30-3hr south of Sydney, a nice drive through NSW. Jervis Bay is a laid back summer holiday destination, mostly for 2nd houses, so the accommodation offer is not huge. If you don’t want to rent a nice little cottage, it’s not available just for the weekend or you don’t want to pay premium prices even for average accommodation, you can spend the night in Berry. It’s a cozy, little town full of cafes and nice little ships. It could take up to a week to try all the coffee shops, although half a day is enough to visit. Accommodation is not cheap here, but still probably a -20% less than down the bay. BEACHES NOT TO MISS: – Vincentia Beach on Marine Bay – Hyams Beach, absolutely amazing white sandy beach …

In Europe, and everywhere “Upabove”, it seems that summer finally has landed (Milan was boiling with 40°C these days, and here Downunder, we never loose our summery mood and we are so close to hot spots on the planet, already within a 2-3 hours reach in Australia. The weekend is approaching and daydreaming about a beautiful beach is more than understandable and it helps to get by these last 2 days of the week. So here is some pictures of some extraordinary beaches you might want to visit one day or daydream for now 🙂 Have a look and see if you ever been to one of these ones! http://edition.cnn.com/2013/05/28/travel/100-best-beaches  ——— // ——— in Europa, e nell’emisfero nord, oramai sembra che l’estate sia arrivata, (a Milano le temperature hanno raggiunto i 40° gradi dopo un’ingrata primavera!9) e qui Downunder non smettiamo mai di pensare all’estate! Perchè in Australia esiste l’inverno?

When is Summer Coming? / Quando arriva l’estate?

Well, this time I need to start in Spanish, you’ll find the English and Italian version below.

When does summer end in Australia? / Finisce mai l’estate in Australia?

When does summer end in Australia? But does summer really end in Australia? That’s probably a question I would have asked before coming to Australia, but that I think I could ask as well now that I’ve been living here for 6 months. Summer officially ends in February, so the 1st day of March is already fall. Why the 1st of March you are maybe wondering? “Just because it’s easier”, someone once said to me! Instead of making it the 21st. Maybe there is also a more scientific explanation for it. I haven’t looked much for an explanation, maybe it is because it is simpler. Even on the website of the museum of Victoria it just says that seasons in Australia start the 1st day of the month. Have a look at this link, if you are interested: http://museumvictoria.com.au/discoverycentre/infosheets/planets/the-sun-and-the-seasons/ Probably that is why we still enjoy summer temperature. It is true that in Sydney the 1st of March was just the perfect day of Autumn, as it was raining and the sky was grey. But …

SLIP SLOP SLAP? That’s the ‘Aussie’ Summer / L’estate australiana: cos’è lo ‘SLIP SLOP SLAP’?
