What’s it like to spend 36 hours in Madrid? // 36 a Madrid – quante cose si riescono a fare?

Oh, well, well if one is not living in Madrid (anymore) should be advised by a doctor to go and visit it once each quarter or at least twice a year 🙂 It’ll probably be because I spent some of the best years of my life there, almost 3, and I have really excellent memories here and this for sure helps, but Madrid has something rare that not many cities have. It is beautiful indeed, but if you compare it to some other cities, well, it’s not the most beautiful one. Nonetheless it has that something that attracts one as a magnet! It’s full of life 24 hours, it has delicious food, so every time you can’t avoid the classics (jamon, pan tomate, tortilla, etc etc…), elegant avenues, of the kind that belong to a capital, but also arty & innovative lanes, that lively & friendly attitude of people, more relaxed, prone to enjoy themselves despite everything else, that is “sexy” and addictive. Even if we probably stayed not even 36 hours I believe, we …

Is ‘Livable’ Another Word for ‘Boring’? Madrid vs Melbourne

Last week I was walking to my German class on this beautiful path next to the river in Zurich and, as always, my mind is wandering and thinking of 10,000 things at once or almost one after the other. And this question came to my mind: “Does the most liveable city in the world mean it’s boring?”.  It’s just one of those questions to ponder on. I guess the reason why this question came to my mind is because in the last 5 years, if I exclude Milan and Zurich where I recently moved to, I lived in two cities, which I both loved and still loved: Madrid and Melbourne. The difference between them, without going into detail, is that: Madrid – did not make the Top 10 of the most liveable cities in the world, but it’s very well organised, I’d say everything works pretty well and, to my knowledge, it’s one of liveliest and fun city in the world Melbourne – is at the Top of the ranking for the 5th time and is …

POSITIVE MONDAY! – Que’ suerte tengo! // I feel so lucky!

Expat Life

A new section has just come to live on my blog about ‘Expat life‘, the hardship & excitement of moving to another place and start a new life somewhere else. In my case, right now it’s Melbourne, but it’s been Madrid in the past. I’ve even been a temporary expatriate also in other cities for shorter periods of time, to learn a language or do an internship. For example in Barcelona, San Diego, the little town of Moodus CT (USA), Sydney, … I’ll be sharing my experience, what’s yours? Check it out by Clicking on the link below: Expat Life. The 4 Phases of Moving to Another Place

I have been living my life in different places. Although it’s been mostly in Italy, in Milan, I have always had the chance to travel, whether it was for holiday, study or work purposes. First encouraged by my parents who well thought it was important to discover the world, know about other cultures and learn other languages to enrich ourselves and prepare for the future, as you never know what turn life could take. At the beginning I felt lucky, but a bit forced, and then little by little this desire and curiosity about the world has become part of me. And now I actively seek these kind of experiences. That’s why lately I spent 2 years and a half living in working in Madrid, Spain, and a few months ago I chose to live in Melbourne, Australia. Every time you move, I think you go through different experiences, phases and emotional states. After my latest transfer to Spain first and to Australia second, I started realising there is actually a pattern in moving and …

Intervistata dal progetto ‘Wowanderlust’ di Alice Avallone

Sorry guys, this is an interview, for now only in Italian, by an Italian Web Project (www.wowanderlust.it) on Travelling. …

Milano, the Place to Be this Week: 9-14 April 2013 Design Week

When is Summer Coming? / Quando arriva l’estate?

Well, this time I need to start in Spanish, you’ll find the English and Italian version below.

Wandering around Melbourne CDB – where to loose yourself: lanes, cafès, …

Wandering around some of the lanes of Melbourne CBD is just a way of positively loose and recharge yourself. It’s an inspiring place! You suddenly think you are not in Melbourne, but in some busy little Asian lane or a Georgian/ Victorian elegant Arcade or a busy street full of cafes somewhere in Europe, with one of the greatest choice you could have. From Italian Style cafes to Sushi bars, Asian places, Fusion or International Flavour spots. Some are just beautiful to look at, some have a more ‘worn-out’ look, and you think that maybe a lot people have stopped by, a container for lots of stories. I don’t know whether this ‘stream of consciousness’ is actually the result of a meditation class I just tried out for the first time. If it is the enormous amount of oxygen that pervades my body, in a state of enhanced alert or what. But do check out these streets: – Hosier Lane, where you’ll find  great murales to look at and also 2 of the Movida restaurant. …
