10 first words I learnt in Australian slang // Le prime 10 parole che ho imparato in “australiano”

Finally after a long time I put together the list of the first 10 words of ‘Australian’ I learnt when I arrived in Melbourne. Yes because in Australia they speak a totally different language! J Come and read for yourself the first words I came across in the land Downunder. ARVO – short for ‘afternoon’, although I don’t particularly like the sound of this word AUSSIE – short for ‘Australian’ BARBIE – short for ‘barbeque’, essential word if you want to live and survive in Australia. You’ll attend and/or organise hundreds of them, it’s like the Italian Aperitivo, almost a National sport 😉 BREKKIE – short for ‘breakfast’, another important part of the day. You can’t start the day without ‘a good brekkie’, which often involves ‘Vegemite’. CHRISSIE – short for ‘Christmas’, a word we learnt after just 4 months of our arrival to Melbourne, since we spent here our first Xmas and we’re going to spend here the next. FOOTY – short for ‘football’, but the Australian one. Nobody living in Melbourne can afford …

Want to know about a ‘yummy’ spot for brunch? / Che ne dite di un brunch? Pancakes, uova, …

Finally after months & months of trying, I convinced Carlo to come & join me after my French Class on Saturday morning. So we met for lunch at Miss Jackson, Jackson st, St Kilda. This is a cute little cafe’ where I usually go for a nice coffee during the lesson break with my colleagues from the French course, brave like me in making the decision of studying French on a Saturday morning. I keep doing it and regretting it when the alarm clock rings at 7 am, but then I’m really happy when I’m there, it really rewards me! Good teachers, fun people! And the ride in tram 96 is always an adventure! … If you know what I mean 😉 Well, anyway, we met at Miss Jackson, which I discovered thanks to Andrea, a past Alliance Française colleague. Something peculiar about Miss Jackson is that they change the flower and plant compositions they display at the entrance! Apart from the amazing dishes I’ve been seeing on their Facebook page: well, just to die …

What is a ‘Friand’? It is delicious! / Cos’è un ‘friand’? E’ delizioso!

Today I learnt a new word. That’s the advantage of going outside and not sit at home,  you always learn something new! The word is friand, probably a French pastry or the Australian nane for a French pastry or some French name for an Australian pastry just to make it more appealing! 😉 this stimulated my curiosity, also because it is strange to learn about French pastry in Australia, bit in fact, as ‘Wikipedia Docet’ (= Wikipedia teaches), it is well spread in Australia and New Zealand. Here is what ‘Wikipedia’ says: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friand The friand is a small French cake, often mistaken for a pastry. It is popular in Australia and New Zealand.[1] It is usually made with almond flour and egg whites. It typically has additional flavorings such as coconut, chocolate, fruit, and nuts. It is baked in small molds, typically oval or barquette in shape. It appears to be related to the financier, though it differs in being larger and not using brown butter.[2][3] The French word friand, which means dainty or a …

Morning run in the sun! / Correr por la manana en el sol / Correre la mattina avvolti da un abbraccio caldo

Running in the morning has never been such a pleasant thing! 9am and something, a beautiful sunny day and lots of wind, but warm wind like if it was 1 o’clock and maybe in the Desert. I managed to do my 30 min run after a period of low running or almost no running. It was peaceful and calm in the Docklands, starfishes on the docks, what a beautiful surprise while running! I just felt free and full of energy with the world just waiting for my next move. A white paper to fill in. Great feeling! Running is great! Let’s see if I can make it a good habit and maybe to some city runs or so! I’ll keep you posted on that! And I guess a good reward for the next time could be a nice cappuccino + brekkie in one of the Docklands cafès! http://bit.ly/Vkvtw2 (LINK) They look tempting and with an amazing view!   Esta manhana me he levantado temprano, me he despertado por el fuerte sol que entraba por la …
