Top 52 Places to Discover in 2016 according to the New York Times // 52 destinazioni da scoprire nel 2016 secondo il New York Times

TheNew York Times has published a list of the 52 Places worth visiting in 2016. Many of you have probably seen it flicking through your FB updates, but if you did not pay attention or you just looked into some of the destination, I’d suggest you to have a closer look at the full list. Despite agreeing or not with the ranked destinations, I think it’s really well presented! You’re presented with an amazing shot on one side and if you want to know more about that place, you can just click on the photo and discover more in general and of recent events or facts, at least on your phone, on your computer the description is just below. Many sites present it similarly, but somehow I find this list of the NYT more elegant and more impactful. It’ll be a very good photograph or just its image quality, the fact that some photos are half videos or the usually non-banal descriptions, I don’t know. Anyway, why don’t you just take a 2nd look! http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/01/07/travel/places-to-visit.html?smid=fb-share&_r=0

What are Australia’s Best beaches according to Qantas?

Hello, sorry for my short absence, but I’ve been a bit busy with studying and work. It’s almost Xmas and here in Zurich it is getting warmer. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ok with it, despite the lack of snow in the mountains. And the reason why is that I realised I’m actually becoming more of a summer person. I missed a wintery Xmas, although I must say, it’s only now I start to miss Australia and I’d like to be in the warm weather. Somehow I changed. I used to enjoy the change of seasons a lot more, especially summer and winter, but now it seems I’d always want to be in spring and summer. 🙂 So, to this I’m sharing with you Qantas selection of Australia’s Best Beaches. Click on the link at the end of the post. If you’re planning a trip, it’s definitely a big help or maybe not. You’d want to go everywhere! And if you’re not planning to visit Australia, well it’s still a great joy for your sight! …

Which are the 2015 TOp 20 islands by Conde Nast Traveler?

Well, today I just want to show you the 2015 Top 20 islands as defined by Conde’ Nast Traveler readers because you’ll just go wow and you’ll probably be going to start planning, once you mange to close your jaw. Well, Christmas is not far away although it might be too late in terms of prices for most of these destinations or maybe it’s not the best season to go. Another thing that you might realise, although you consider yourself as “well-travelled”, you’ll reach a mere 4 or 5 out of 20 and you’ll see there’s still lot to see out there. But don’t feel frustrated, first it means there a lot of amazing places to visit and trips to plan, secondly most probably you’re lucky if you’ve been even to one these awesome islands. Although some FOMO might take over you, but I guess it’s normal. If you don’t know what FOMO is, read my previous post here: https://lavaleandherworld.wordpress.com/2013/11/24/whats-fomo-how-to-cope-with-it-fomo-uma-vida-correndo-come-fare/  Anyhow, let’s just go to the meaty part, click on this link and you’ll be …

Cote D’Azur or South Pacific Paradise? Try New Caledonia! // Costa Azzurra o paradiso tropicale? Provate la Nuova Caledonia!

New Caledonia is a great holiday option if you have already visited most of Australia, you do not want to travel far from it (assuming you’re living here) and you want to explore the Pacific Islands, with a French twist! Just northeast of Brisbane, less than 4hrs from Melbourne, with a direct flight not available every day. Our flight option: Qantas flight Melbourne-Brisbane (1h 40) + Brisbane-Noumea (1h 40) Most people will only speak French, although very close to Australia, and you’ll see many French chains like Simply Market, Decathlon, … It feels like being in Europe, thousands of Kms away from it, a tropical France! Destination Ile des Pins. Our flight got postponed to the afternoon, apparently it happens quite often. This gave us the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the local community, having breakfast at the Noumea Sunday local market and visit the Cathedral and the city. Followed by the Centre Jean-Marie Tjibaou, whose building has been built by the Italian architect Renzo Piano. The centre gives you an insight on Kanak culture …

Torquay and Bells Beach, the Surfers paradise!

Why go to New Zealand? // Perche’ andare in Nuova Zelanda?

New Zealand: if I think of New Zealand, I think of a dreamland or better, a dream destination. A land where you can just loose yourself in the beauties of nature, its colours, its amazing panoramas. This time it’s been a short visit, a long weekend to the South Island, exactly to Queenstown and its surrounding mountains, to accomplish a dream: skiing in New Zealand. This dream had 2 challenges: 1. Reach New Zealand 2. Ski there For #1 I can say it was quite easy, as I now live in Melbourne, Australia. For #2, it has been a little bit more difficult as lately my operated knee was begging for attention. So it required quite a deal of motivation, to start the physio, and more effort, to actually do it. But if I want something, I’ll get it! And that’s why I found myself skiing for a long day on the slopes of Cardrona just after 2 months of quite an intense Physio schedule. Well, the mountains in Cardrona look similar to the Western …

Chilly & Feeling ‘snowy’ today: Where to go skiing before it’s too crowded!

Today it really felt a bit colder in Melbourne and I could smell the snowy weather in the air. Supposedly it snowed in Victoria, in Mount Buller for example, and it’s going to snow in Queenstown, New Zealand. Well, yeah, I’d love to ski!!! So on the subject here’s an article that I came across on The Age by ‘Miss Snow it all‘ (I love this name!) which collects some other ski destinations around the globe. They are always in the famous ski countries in Europe, North America, Japan, but it says they are soon to become the new top spots. Some of them you might know, depending on where you live, some others you won’t. Some of them I find hard to believe, probably because I know the place too well or maybe it has just been improved in the last few years and I don’t know…I hope so! Some I totally agree with. And I think that a different place can always look interesting to new eyes, coming from another country or snow …

In Europe, and everywhere “Upabove”, it seems that summer finally has landed (Milan was boiling with 40°C these days, and here Downunder, we never loose our summery mood and we are so close to hot spots on the planet, already within a 2-3 hours reach in Australia. The weekend is approaching and daydreaming about a beautiful beach is more than understandable and it helps to get by these last 2 days of the week. So here is some pictures of some extraordinary beaches you might want to visit one day or daydream for now 🙂 Have a look and see if you ever been to one of these ones! http://edition.cnn.com/2013/05/28/travel/100-best-beaches  ——— // ——— in Europa, e nell’emisfero nord, oramai sembra che l’estate sia arrivata, (a Milano le temperature hanno raggiunto i 40° gradi dopo un’ingrata primavera!9) e qui Downunder non smettiamo mai di pensare all’estate! Perchè in Australia esiste l’inverno?

FIJI Part 3: the Mamanucas Islands & the Coral Coast // FIJI: isole Mamanucas e Coral coast

Well, it’s been difficult to plan the trip at times as the weather forecast was continually changing and I expect this is probably normal in the South Pacific area. Luckily it did not get too much in the way of relaxing and having fun. Finally the trip to the Mamanucas Islands, one of the 2 archipelagos not to miss, was scheduled for Wednesday. We’d tour the first islands and then stop on Mana Island, a long but narrow island with a resort and backpackers, where you have the luxury to choose which beach to go to. We went with South Sea cruises‎, most of the 1-day trips are valued at 200FJ$ or less, which is around 100AUD$, a bit less in €. It was a beautiful, sunny day and the show put in place by nature that day was simply to die for. Clear water, white, long sandy beaches, corals and palms… WELCOME TO MANA ISLAND! Our arrival accompanied by music…feeling like a star in the movies or too much of a tourist, you choose. …
