What are Australia’s Best beaches according to Qantas? // Quali sono le migliori spiagge australiane secondo Qantas?

Hello, sorry for my short absence, but I’ve been a bit busy with studying and work. It’s almost Xmas and here in Zurich it is getting warmer. Don’t get me wrong, I’m ok with it, despite the lack of snow in the mountains. And the reason why is that I realised I’m actually becoming more of a summer person. I missed a wintery Xmas, although I must say, it’s only now I start to miss Australia and I’d like to be in the warm weather. Somehow I changed. I used to enjoy the change of seasons a lot more, especially summer and winter, but now it seems I’d always want to be in spring and summer. 🙂 So, to this I’m sharing with you Qantas selection of Australia’s Best Beaches. Click on the link at the end of the post. If you’re planning a trip, it’s definitely a big help or maybe not. You’d want to go everywhere! And if you’re not planning to visit Australia, well it’s still a great joy for your sight! …

What is bushwalking? Here the Top 10 walks in & around Melbourne // Cos’e’ il “bushwalking”? Le 10 passaggiate Top a Melbourne e dintorni

Australia is a land where you can walk a lot. If only because it’s a huge island 🙂 We might not be able to do a lot of climbs uphill very high, although you can still do some, but you can definitely bushwalk. What is bushwalking? This is a word I discovered the first time I went to Australia in 2002 and it is basically walking in the bush, the Australian bush, which is the typical vegetation of Australia. Here’s the definition of a bushwalk by wikipedia: https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bushwalk If you live in Melbourne, you’ve plenty of options of day trips and walk just 1 hour outside the city or even around the city. Here is the list of the Top 10 walks in and around Melbourne as published by “Concrete Playground”. Read at the following link: http://concreteplayground.com/melbourne/travel-leisure/leisure/the-ten-best-walks-in-and-around-melbourne/ Have you tried them all already? Which is your favourite? ———- // ———- In Australia sicuramente si puo’ camminare molto. Fosse solamente per la grandezza dell’isola che non lascia dubbi 🙂 Certo magari non si possono fare molte …

Our last day in Melbourne and Australia // Il nostro ultimo giorno a Melbourne e in Australia

And here we are: our last day in Melbourne and in Australia. Actually this happened a few months ago, but I did not have the time to write about it, maybe I wasn’t ready and thought the last paragraph about the airport was too much. But then I thought, why not sharing it anyway? In the end we’ve been lucky and it’s normal to be happy about it, right? A strange feeling, as if nothing was going to happen. And in fact not much happened that day apart from the fact that we were going to leave the country. And probably, after a relaxed breakfast and a last stroll in the CBD, it’s been much about cleaning the apartment (the never ending story) and getting rid of every single little item that we accumulated in these 3 years. And I mean it! The apartment needed to be emptied completely not to incur in charges, thanks to our friends Carla and Lluis for letting us know (e.g. A soap near the sink is seen as not …

3 days to visit Kangaroo Island, a Honeymoon destination for Italians, not explored as much as it deserved by Aussies

Kangaroo Island as experienced by my mother. Guest Post written by Beatrice Porrati with some “add-ons” by me. Let’s start – How to get there? For example, from Melbourne take a flight to Adelaide, then rent a car and drive until Cape Jervis, roughly 1 hour and 40 minutes, so if you are arriving on Friday night, you might want to think of spending the night somewhere halfway or close to Cape Jervis. 40 minutes on the ferry and you’ll reach Penneshaw, one of the little town on the Island. Here, before starting your visit through the third biggest island of Australia, you can stop for coffee & cake or a quick lunch at Ultima tule Cafe’. Kangaroo Island is simply beautiful: three days is the minimum stay to have a taste of its nature, wilderness and peaceful life. But if you have more time you can stay all week to appreciate its people, environment and culture. The people who live here are mostly farmers and fishermen, but there are also some artists. Approximately 4.600 …

10 things that will surprise you when visiting Canberra

Canberra has never been on my travel bucket list, but I know that sooner or later I’d pay a visit. The occasion has been this last Easter long weekend. We didn’t have time to plan in advance and having visited most of what you can reach by car from Melbourne at a reasonable distance, well, it was time for Canberra. A couple of suggested stops on the way to&from Canberra: – Shepparton, for a quick bite on the way – Wagga Wagga, if you don’t want to do the trip all in one go, it’s a good place to stop – a laid back town, with a river bank to explore and a cool sunset to watch if you’re lucky and a couple dinner options, but being bank holiday not many were open and we went to G Thai and had a decent Pad Thai – Albury, a good stop for lunch on the way back to Melbourne, or Beechworth, if you want to go and try the delicacies where the renowned (in Victoria) Beechworth Bakery …

A 3 day recipe to get a taste of the Gippslands

When you visited most of the highlights of Victoria, then it’s time to push yourself beyond. And with beyond I mean the Gippslands. What I’m proposing to you it’s a 3 day trip to see what you have to see around this area, but of course you can extend your stay. Day 1 – Get a flavour of enchanting Wilsons Promontory Day 2 – 90 miles beach and the Lakes Entrance area Day 3 – enjoy the Gippsland a bit more before making your way back through Walhalla Day 1 Wilsons Prom, as it’s known, is about 3hours away from Melbourne. I suggest you make a coffee stop at 2/3 of the way in Meeniyan where there are nice little cafes, like The Meeniyan Store where you can also indulge in quite good treats, also gluten free like the Nougat one, and top up on organic fruit & veg and home-made produce such as jams, sauces, chutneys, fruit in Syrup. Cruise till the Prom and then onto Squeaky Beach where you can admire the amazing …

At least 7 things to do in Phillip Island on a day trip // Almeno 7 cose da fare a Phillip Island

Phillip Island is definitely an option for a day trip, although I’d recommend not to leave this trip as the last one around Victoria or you risk being disappointed, at least by the towns on the island. The nature, as always in Australia, is just amazing. A good plan, if you don’t want to just enjoy the beach, is to start with a quick visit to (1) Churchill Island Farmers Market, on in the morning every 4th Saturday of the month until 1pm. You can find the usual: flowers, fruit & veg, jams, some meats, homemade sweets, sauces and pasta and also nuts for example. We bought some granola and honey crunch macadamia from Twins Pantry. Then we went to (2) Cowes for a brunch at Madcowes. Don’t expect the typical Melbourne “designer/hipster” type of place, but the food is good. Our choice, eggs benedict with spinach for me and with baked beans for Carlo. There are a couple of other options that look inviting at the entrance of Cowes and on the main street …

What’s the Melbourne Big Design Market? And what cool stuff to buy? // Cos’e’ il Big Design Market di Melbourne? ‘Cool stuff’ da comprare!

Last weekend was the Bid Design Market Melbourne (5-7th December) weekend, a great opportunity to know some local crafters, from Jewellery to leather and garden Designers, home décor and more. Dove si trova il paradiso della carta a Melbourne // Where’s the Paper (art & craft) paradise in Melbourne?

A lazy Sunday and hot morning in Melbourne, went out to get a couple of things done and indulged in visiting a shop I longed visiting for a while: Paperpoint. Well, I started exploring what was on the shelves and from the start I got positively overwhelmed by the colours and textures that were all around, let alone all the cute Xmas decorations, little puppets and little things all over the shop. I was in heaven. It was about just about joy! the little neurons or people that are in my head, just started running and jumping around, happy! A new idea after the other came out of all the things that Paperpoint was selling. Well, you’ll know I bought half of the shop and luckily it was lunch time and /i had to go home, otherwise it would have a been a much worse “economic disaster”! 🙂 It made me feel excited like when I used to spend hours at “Il Paradiso della carta‘ (The Paper paradise) in Milan or at ‘L’antica Cartoleria Novecento” …

A recipe for a relaxing getaway: Good Food, wine and … at Daylesford // Ricetta per il relax: Buona tavola e buon vino, e … a Daylesford

A kind staff will welcome you when you arrive at The Lake house in Daylesford. You enter an environment of indulgence, interesting pieces of furniture that all find their place. And it’s only 1 hour and a half from Melbourne. A relaxing getaway for a day or a weekend. This time the description in the post will be more detailed (e.g. the lunch menu), but I’ve organised it in sections so you can read what interests you the most. Salus Spa I’ve spent the first 2 hours being pampered at the Spa thanks to my husband’s wedding anniversary present. I indulged in a full body massage and a facial. All the lotions perfumes’ they used contributed to the relaxation experience as I ended smelling a bouquet of fresh vegetables, although I’ve later been told it was all about flowers and fruit. And I wasn’t even hungry! Well, still a mistery to me… All this while Carlo was enjoying the lounge. Although no one actually came up to him to ask if he wanted a glass …
