Discovering one of the many Xmas markets in Zurich // Alla scoperta di uno dei mercatini di Natale di Zurigo

In a bit more than 20 days it’s Xmas, yes again, but finally with all the atmosphere I was always used to. A bit of cold, Xmas trees, decorations and, most of all lights, everywhere, and that you can actually see because the sky is not lit up by the sun anymore…which prevent you from seeing them. (i.e. in Melbourne most of the Xmas decorations are not lit up because it would be a waste as there is still light some days until 9-10pm at night)christmas Melbourne

By the way, it’s been a marvellous experience that of living Xmas in the summer, eating my husband’s favourite “anolini”, to tell it brutally and for the sake of letting you understand, excusing myself with my husband, the people of Piacenza and all the foodies and food experts, they are meat-filled “ravioli” usually eaten with broth. Well, on the first 24th of December we spent in Australia, my husband could not renounce to his traditional Xmas dish, so we had the anolini with broth, of course in the air-conditioning and thanks God it wasn’t too hot that evening, and then we attended Mass at midnight, outside just with a light jumper, can you imagine? Or having a barbie last year at the beach with some good Spanish friends of ours and then wallking barefeet in the sand and in the ocean. Or starting to have Panettone at the beginning of December (thanks to our Dubai friends for the suggestion), buying a Xmas plant or doing the Xmas tree just to imagine it was Xmas.

Well, priceless! …for some time🙂 And definitely we’ve been very lucky and we still are and I’ll never stop saying this.

We definitely missed a White Xmas, which for us it’s the real Xmas! So it was about time!🙂

Given the intro was a bit of a walk down memory lane, I’ll share with you just photos of the new Xmas markets in Zurich in case you decide to visit in December. It has been renamed as a Xmas Village and is located at Bellevue, in the city centre. It’s mostly food stalls, but there are also an ice-rink, music, designers objects, a typical Xmas decorations hut and typical Xmas stalls. I’d definitely suggest the dumplings from Wesley’s Kitchen, the roasted chestnuts, the “gluhwein” and the flammkuchen, although very pricey, but hey, it’s Switzerland😉 Anyway, apparently there many more Xmas markets scattered around the city. Enjoy!

  1. I loved the photo of you two in sunglasses with snowflakes effect around you… very cute! You must be lovng the Christmas season in Switzerland this year– it seems like the Swiss and Germans hold the patent on how to really “do” Christmas. I hope you get some snow soon so it will be a complete picture for you! Best wishes for a happy New Year too!

    • Hey! such a long time. how are you? Yes, it was cool effect, snow on a summer day. I liked it and decided to apply it to my photo. Although now I’d probably be happy to do the same again. I’ve always loved snow, but somehow I’m slowly becoming one of those summer people eheh Anyhow Xmas in Zurich is amazing! the lighting and the decorations are simply spectacular, what about over there?

Best wishes for the coming Xmas and for a happy 2016!🙂
