Why go to New Zealand? // Perche’ andare in Nuova Zelanda?

New Zealand: if I think of New Zealand, I think of a dreamland or better, a dream destination. A land where you can just loose yourself in the beauties of nature, its colours, its amazing panoramas. This time it’s been a short visit, a long weekend to the South Island, exactly to Queenstown and its surrounding mountains, to accomplish a dream: skiing in New Zealand.

This dream had 2 challenges:
1. Reach New Zealand
2. Ski there

For #1 I can say it was quite easy, as I now live in Melbourne, Australia.
For #2, it has been a little bit more difficult as lately my operated knee was begging for attention. So it required quite a deal of motivation, to start the physio, and more effort, to actually do it. But if I want something, I’ll get it! And that’s why I found myself skiing for a long day on the slopes of Cardrona just after 2 months of quite an intense Physio schedule.
Well, the mountains in Cardrona look similar to the Western Italian Alps of Piedmont, but they’re lower, up to 2000m approx. It had snowed the previous days, and despite some rain a couple of days earlier, the snow was just perfect! But the scenery around the mountains was different, the colours were different! Vivid green, ochre yellow, Siena and darker brown combined with an amazing green/blue colour of the lake were the perfect frame. The day of ski was just awesome! A ‘breath of fresh air’, energy, freedom, to fill my heart with! The thought that will and self-motivation can ‘move mountains’! Just awesome! Probably a skier can thoroughly appreciate what I mean.
And then Queenstown, just a cute, little town framed by endless mountains and a vast lake you would want to dive in or snorkel as it’s so transparent.

I’m not giving you much detail in this post because this is the emotional post on New Zealand. For all references on where to stay & eat and what to do, read this POST: http://bit.ly/18FNyKT
I just wanted to describe the fantastic feeling of being back to this beautiful country that is New Zealand. For it’s marvellous scenery and the beautiful people, extremely friendly and welcoming, especially if you think they live in a remote country “Downunder”. I know you’d say: “If you don’t see many people, you’d probably eager to see more”, but in my modest experience, it’s been mostly the opposite.

Anyway, dream accomplished! Happy and I’m looking forward to more skiing and my next trip to New Zealand, to visit the rest of the South Island, hopefully next year!🙂

  1. Andare in Nuova Zelanda
  2. E sciare
